tribal fashion show
Attire or Clothing forms an essential part of any rural culture and plays a major role in rural development. Clothing gives them a sense of identity and a feeling of pride. But over the years jeans and modern clothing as used give-aways by urban people, have reached rural population, slowly killing their ethnic wear, and therefore their identity too.
In recent times, khadi and locally grown cotton and silk, have assumed significance, entering premium markets and fashion wear. With the Make-in-India campaign, Fashion designers have also started focussing in that direction. Indian ethnic and regional wear has started getting noticed at international levels too. The journey from traditional to regional is now slowly moving towards tribal wear as well. PEHAL - 2015 aims to underline this important aspect of rural and tribal culture, to promote Tribal wear, through a new event - Tribal Fashion show. In this competition, you will be required to dress up in a style inspired from any tribal culture of India. You can also dress up in a combination, picking up different parts of your style, from different tribes. But you also need to bring a collage of pictures, swatches of clothes textures surroundings and colours that became your inspiration from the tribal culture that you have taken. This is called the ‘Mood Board’. For example: If a participant gets inspired from Gond tribes of India then his/her Mood Board will consist of pictures describing different cultures of the Gond tribe, the fabric material they grow and use, the colours they use, the accessories they wear, etc, reasons behind their use, plus information about the Gond Tribe as well. It will be great to see you ‘Walk the RAMP’ in your tribal fashion, and share with us, all information about them, that inspired you. The best and most informed fashion would win, and who knows, may be catch the attention of the fashion industry as well. |
